The Happiness Trap – ‘I’ll be happy WHEN I get a new phone…I’ll be happy WHEN I have a six-pack…

I’ll be happy WHEN I get a new car, get a new house, have more money, become successful….
THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER!
We live in a society that lays out the foundations of what we need in life to be happy. We are constantly bombarded with advertising on social media & spend a good portion of our days scrolling through other people’s highlight reels!
With this constant bombardment of information and the dopamine fix we all so longingly crave, it is very hard to expect our brains to just settle and really be IN THE MOMENT! The quality of our lives day to day depends greatly on our level of awareness (and ironically, we are often unaware of this).
Our brains are constantly jumping from one thing to another with attention levels at an all-time low! I catch myself watching tv with the laptop open and my phone in my hand and think – WHAT THE FU**? Life goes by so quickly and we need to start enjoying the journey!
PRESENCE. It is amazing to have things to look forward to in life and we should be so grateful that we do have that, not everyone does, but don’t spend your life wishing time away! If 2020 has taught us anything it is to cherish the time we do have with the people we love and MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT! Nothing changes when you get that new phone, that 6 pack, you are still the same person on the inside so my advice is spend more time on project me, it is a great investment & ENJOY THE PROCESS!
A grandfather imparting a lesson to his grandson tells him ‘I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is vengeful, fearful, envious resentful, deceitful. The other wolf is loving compassionate, generous, truthful & serene’
The grandson asks which wolf will win the fight.
The grandfather answers, ‘The one I feed’
